Recording Session "Another Man"

Today we began recording the track "Another Man", we used 2 guitars through a valve amp, the lead guitar was played through a distortion pedal and a phaser pedal in the main verse, the rhythm guitar just using the 2 channels on the amp.

The Bass was recorded through direct DI, because it sounded so much better on the enigma track, we thought to use this recording method for the bass again.

Drums were recorded with a EAD10 mic/module, and a AKG condenser microphone as a overhead/room mic. We have also added a mixing desk to our set up which has allowed us to eq the sound before its sent to the interface.

"Another Man" the idea/EP cover idea

We have now started writing a new song called "Another Man", this song is supposed to explain the path of a young boy who grows up to become the man he wants to be, and not what society wants him to be,

This idea came originally to me as a simple guitar riff consisting in a series of simplified chords that set a sombre tone to the songs quietest part, "-This is a Story of a Man-", the song is pretty much all figured out, just now working on the guitar solo, bass lines and arrangement.

"Enigma" Mixed and Mastered!

We have now finished recording, mixing and mastering our 2nd track called "Enigma", here's some photos of the recording sessions!

This song describes the enigma of life as its main theme, by having 2 different sections to the song, the blissful calm and easy live, and a more distorted a difficult path, all culminating in the chorus "destiny is a step ahead".

For this track we recorded the bass through a direct DI to the interface, and the guitars through a 50watt Marshall valve amp, just using its 2 channels and natural overdrive, no pedals of effects were used in this recording.

Tyler (the new drummer) has joined us a few days ago and he felt very welcome and he feels tah he fits right in, and so he insisted in recording a couple of tracks with us, we used His Yamaha EAD10 mic/module for a main kit sound and a beta 58 as a Room/overhead Mic, which as an experiment, I feel that was really successful.

Evaluation & Conclusion

In this project I took on the recording mixing and mastering of a four track EP for my band Rock Dove. We had some obstacles on ...
